FLOWERS
Who could live without them?
Flowers are God’s wonderful gift of beauty and fragrance. What would the world be with them? They transcend all ages and all cultures. Everybody loves them. We need them.

What are flowers for?
Besides the beauty we all enjoy, they contain the reproductive parts of plants. Without them many plants would not be able to make seeds or reproduce. Then we would not have any food to eat. We can’t live without them. God provided them to feed our spirits and our bodies.
There are four main parts. Petals are where all the beautiful color is found. Sepals are the green leaf-like structures that cover the bud before it opens. The stamens are the multiple stem-like parts that have yellow pollen on top of them, they are the male parts. And in the center of the stamens is the pistil which is the female part. It has an opening that goes down into a receptacle that holds the nectar for insects, hummingbirds, and butterflies.
If when they are eating they get some pollen down into the pistil (or even the wind can do it) pollination takes place and seeds are formed. All the beautiful blossoms are there to produce more plants. Sounds like people. That’s the way God made things. And we get to have the beauty and enjoyment. Fragrance is another enjoyment of blossoms. Different fragrances attract different insects. There is even one plant whose blossoms smell rotten. It attracts a certain type of fly to pollinate it. Fortunately many blossoms have pleasant fragrances. The fragrances are there to attract the pollinators, but we get to enjoy them, too.
Attracting Wildlife
Hummingbirds do not smell. They tend to go where they can find large nectar reservoirs. They like many of the trumpet shaped blossoms. Their long bill and tongue allow them to get the nectar out of the deep tubes. Most insects and butterflies can’t get down into the long trumpet shaped flowers. God made hummingbirds to pollinate this type of blossom.

Butterflies are unable to hover and eat like hummingbirds do. They need a landing pad so they can sit down and feed. Daisies are ideal for this. Daisies not only have one pistil, but they are a composite flower and have multiple pistils. So when the butterfly lands it has many nectar receptacles to choose from.
Butterflies like many types of flowers.
