God taught me the power of the blood. This was my first lesson in spiritual warfare when I was just a baby Christian. We were living in a small town commercial fishing and barely eking out a living.
One of the other commercial fishermen invited my husband to go night fishing with him, so we could pick up some extra money. My husband would be out very late fishing. I stayed home by myself.
We were living in a rental trailer with two bedrooms. The bedroom we slept in was on the tongue end of the trailer. Then there was the living room, the kitchen and the bathroom was on the other side of the kitchen.
As you can imagine like most ladies, I had to get up during the night to go use the bathroom. Ever since I was a child, I had been afraid of the dark. So when I got up at night I would go through the dark to the bathroom on the other end of the trailer.
The only overhead lights were in the kitchen and bathroom and we didn’t have any lamps. So I went to the bathroom in the dark, used the light while there and went back to the bedroom in the dark.
I made sure I closed the bypass closet doors in the bedroom because I was afraid something in the closet would come out and get me.
I pulled the covers up off of the floor because I thought something could climb up underneath the covers and get me if the covers touched the floor.
I couldn’t tell my husband about what was going on because we needed the money. Besides who wanted to admit they were that chicken?
I had been reading a book entitled “Beyond ESP”. It said what was beyond and stronger than ESP was Jesus Christ. I had read and said the prayer for salvation in the back of the book.
The book also taught about “pleading the blood of Jesus”. It said that bad spirits had to leave when you plead the blood of Jesus. I wasn’t real sure how to do it, but I had to do something.
Each night when I went to the bathroom and back I kept saying “I plead the blood of Jesus.” And I would try to imagine red all around me like it was the blood.
This went on for about three nights, but I kept doing it because the book said it would work. Each night I got more and more afraid. Finally on the third night by the time I got back in bed, I was petrified.
Then God stepped in! He opened my eyes to see into the spirit world. I saw what looked like a short little man standing on the tongue of the trailer looking in the window.
He had a steel gray colored suit on with a matching gray stovepipe hat. The suit was kind of rumpled looking and the stovepipe hat had been pushed down so that it had a crease in the middle. The man’s (spirit’s) skin was pallid looking and he had gray stubble on his face.
I kept pleading the blood of Jesus and the man, spirit just faded away. When he was gone I had no more fear. The fear was gone.
That was years ago and I have not been afraid of the dark since. Praise God!
God’s perfect love casts out all fear. Nothing can stand against the love of God. And I had my first spiritual warfare lesson in the power of the blood of Jesus.
Jesus shed His blood to wash our sins away. It makes us pure and clean in the sight of God.
The blood draws a line that our enemy satan and his evil demons cannot cross because they are sinful. (Ex. 12:13, 23)
Satan hates the precious blood of Christ. It signifies what he is not – purity, cleanliness, and freedom from sin.
In the Old Testament (Leviticus) whenever the priests came before God they would sacrificially kill various types of animals.
A perfect unblemished animal was always used. For the common people a she goat or an unblemished perfect lamb was often used as their sin offering.
The sin offering foreshadowed the sacrifice of Christ’s death on the cross.
Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross as a sin offering for us. He gave Himself once and for all for our sins. Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus.
Jesus,The Rose of Sharon (painting) is returning to the land where He shed His blood.
“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, … but with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot." (1 Pet. 1:18-19)
The priests would use the lamb’s body as a sacrifice to God. The blood of the sacrificed animal was sprinkled on the mercy seat, signifying our dependence upon God’s mercy to cleanse us from our sins.“The life of the flesh is in the blood.” (Lev. 17:11)
The animal was sacrificed to atone for man’s sin. Christ did the same thing for us in the New Testament. He was a perfect sacrifice without sin or blemish. He brought His own blood into the holy place to offer it before God.
“Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption“ (Heb. 9:12)
The animal sacrifices had to be repeated each year. Christ made one sacrifice, which is good forever. “But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God.” (Heb. 10:12)
The blood of Christ has once and for all cleansed us from our sin. We have been cleansed of our sins by the blood of Jesus. We are made the righteousness of Christ by our faith in Jesus Christ and His shed blood. (Rom. 3:21-26)
There is no other way for us to be righteous, but through the blood of Jesus. Our righteousness is but as filthy rags. (Is. 64:6) We are cleansed and made whole by the blood. It redeems us. (I Pet. 1:18-19)
Through Jesus' shed blood, we are made perfect without spot or blemish. (Heb. 9:12-17 and 1 Pet. 1:18-19) “The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. “ (1 John 1:7)
Through His blood and death Jesus has broken the legal hold of satan off of our lives. (Heb. 2:14-15) “He who sins is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8)
Jesus has broken the legal hold of satan off of our lives through
His shed blood. (Heb.2:14-15)Satan hates this because he is sinful. He does not claim the
blood of Christ to cleanse him from his sins.
As believers we can claim the blood. It is an important weapon of our spiritual warfare. Satan cannot cross the blood line because of his sin nature. Only purity and freedom from sin are on the other side of the blood of Jesus.
When we accept Jesus as our savior, we are cleansed of our sins by the blood. We can use the blood as a weapon of our warfare against satan and his demons. We remind satan of the blood.
We can apply it to ourselves, to our family, and to other believers. Satan cannot pass through the blood. He has to leave that person or thing alone that is covered by the blood. Even as the blood was applied to the lentil and doorposts of the Israelite's homes, we may apply the blood of Jesus to our homes. (Ex. 12:13, 23)
The evil spirits have to leave because they are sinful. They cannot
stay where the blood is. Thus we can live in our homes in peace and
safety away from the turmoil of the outside world.
We remember Jesus’ sacrifice and shed blood when we take communion. We remember His broken body and His cleansing blood. We proclaim and accept the benefits of Christ’s sacrifice for us by taking communion.
We as believers now have the privilege of coming directly before God through the blood of Christ to find grace, mercy, help for ourselves and for others. “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus.” (Heb. 10:19)
Thank you, Lord. Thank you for your precious sacrifice, for our cleansing and protection. Thank you Lord, that sin and evil cannot stay in the presence of the blood. Thank you God, for the privilege of coming into your presence cleansed by the precious blood. Thank you Jesus for your willing sacrifice. Thank you, Lord!
We must be careful to not bring objects of sin or things used in the worship of other gods into our homes. These may include SOME television programs, comics, music, toys, games, posters, artwork, jewelry, statues or artifacts from other cultures and religions, etc.
Be cautious about anything that is worshiped or lifted up higher than our one true God. If we have sinful things or objects in our home, we are giving satan a doorway and permission to enter the house.
Satan has a legal right to be in our home as long as we keep unholy things in our house. These things can disrupt the peace and spiritual cleanliness of our home. They will cause us grief and problems.
God will reveal to
you (especially if you ask Him) what things are evil and should be
removed from your home and your surroundings. Remove from your home
everything that is offensive to God.
There is a good example of the grief caused by having evil, cursed objects in the house in Joshua chapter 7.
The people brought cursed things into their camp and God told them that they would not be able to stand before their enemies until the cursed things were removed from their midst.
Joshua 7:12-13 “…Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves…” (Gen. 35:2) “Abstain from every form of evil.” (1Thess. 5:22)
When we do not have evil objects or things in our homes, the demons have no legal right to be there. Then when we apply
the blood of Jesus to our homes the evil spirits must leave. They flee
from the blood. They cannot stay!
When you apply the blood of Jesus to your home
As you anoint the doors and windows with the oil, say
“I plead / apply the blood of Jesus,” over each door, window, or opening.
We can apply the blood to ourselves. Jesus has already done this for us. But as we remind satan of it, he has to abide by it.
We can also, apply the blood to our family because they are sanctified by us as a believer in the house. Hopefully they have accepted Jesus themselves and are thus sanctified already.
We may also apply the blood to other believers and our businesses, our properties, or anything under our control.
To apply the blood of Jesus pray something like this;
(Applying the blood to our ears is to help us hear God clearly. Applying the blood to our thumbs is for our work life and to our toes is for our walk life.)
Thank you for your mercy and the power of the blood. Thank
you God that satan can not cross the blood. Thank you for Your love
and faithfulness. Thank you Jesus for Your precious blood. Amen.
All Christians have this same authority in Christ.
God is no respecter of persons; He loves all just the same. What He will do for one, He will do for another.
The blood of Jesus is a powerful, powerful devil stomping weapon of spiritual warfare. Use it. You will be glad you did.
