PAINTINGS
Art by Carol May
I love doing paintings of all the beauty and wonder God has put in the world. He has given us flowers, birds, butterflies, mountains, oceans and more. My artwork is usually nature related. I seldom do man made things. It is my goal as an artist to share the wonderful gifts of God. Both in what He has created and with the gift of painting He has so graciously given.

I work with both oils and watercolors. I love the freedom of watercolors and the rich beauty of oils. While attending school all my art classes used acrylics. After my mother retired she and I went to art workshops. We learned the ala prima method; I still do my oils in this method. I do all my oils on stretched archival canvas. Oils are the highly respected traditional type of artwork. They have a brilliance and richness that is unsurpassed. Then one year my sister gave me a calendar with watercolor artwork on it. It was winter and it was too cold to open the windows for ventilation. So i decided to give watercolors a try. And I liked them. I did my watercolors on paper then matted and framed them under glass. When my paintings started stacking up in the house my husband suggested that we do some street festivals to share my artwork with other people.

During one show the winds gusted up to 60 MPH; outside in a tent - you could imagine. Fortunately our tent was sandwiched tightly between other tents on both sides. Our tent did not go down but some other artists lost theirs. We got very concerned about people coming into our tent when it was so windy. If the tent went down with people in it we were afraid that there might be injury from broken glass.
So after we got home I started looking at other ways to do my watercolors. I came across what was then called Claybord made by Ampersand; they now call it Aquabord. It is a hardboard with an archival kaolin clay applied to the painting side of the board. When the watercolors are dry, I spray it with a fixative for protection. Then it may be framed and displayed without glass. That solved the glass problem.
Nowadays I switch back and forth between oils and watercolors. I admire the richness of oils and the freedom of watercolors.

I had surgery a couple of years ago. I was not up to doing large artwork. So I spent the year doing
Hummingbirds.

I enjoy working in the garden and I always plant flowers for the butterflies. I take their pictures and and then do
Butterflies.

I have an Azalea bush in front of my house that blooms every year with pink and white flowers both on the same bush. I just had to do it for my
Artwork of Flowers.

God has made all sorts interesting things in the world for us to enjoy. The Leafy Sea Dragon made great
Critter's Art.

Sometimes God gives me dreams or visions for doing some
Prophetic Art
to share the love and glory of God. I have been told by others that they feel God's peace coming from these pieces of art. Freedom's Light is one such piece; it had a strong anointing on it.
