If you are wondering about me, Carol May Britton, first and foremost I am a God lover. And I love and serve Jesus Christ, the living word. I have been a born again Christian ever since 1974. And I have been filled with the Holy Spirit since 1980. I love God with all of my heart and I am working to serve Him to the best of my abilities.
I was born and raised in California. (See the painting "Winter Wonderland" that reminds me of where I was born.) I have lived in the country almost all of my life. I have always had a love for nature and all the beautiful critters and creations God has made. We have so many beautiful Gifts of God all around us. I graduated from UC Davis with a major in horticulture and minors in art and chemistry. Not that I remember much of the chemistry, but the art I certainly have been using. I taught horticulture for several years in California. When my husband and I moved to Florida we were self employed and we worked side-by-side in commercial fishing, building contracting and with rental properties. We have always been nature lovers and we started bird watching several years ago. We went on Audubon field trips and learned to identify many of the Florida birds. We put up bird feeders with seeds and a feeder with hummingbird food. We soon had a myriad of birds coming to our back yard. Also gray and flying squirrels came to their feeding jars. We built a large two-tired birdbath. The birds used it and lots of other critters like deer and raccoons. Since I have always loved gardening, I planted flowers around our bird bath and lots of butterflies came, too.
We went to a short photography class, got some cameras and started photographing the birds, butterflies, hummingbirds and all the other beauty God had gifted us with. Then I got the idea to start painting the birds, butterflies and flowers. My mother and I had attended oil painting classes. She was a certified Bill Alexander instructor. He is the one who taught Bob Ross his painting style. I taught some Bill Alexander (Bob Ross style) classes, also. I had been using oils for several years and burnt myself out painting pelicans while we were commercial fishing. I was amazed by the pelicans, but I painted so many of them that I got sick of it. I quit painting for a while.
In the late 90s my sister gave me a calendar with watercolor paintings on it. At college we only painted with acrylics. I had never painted with watercolors, but I wanted to try. So I gave it a whirl. Pretty soon the paintings were running out of the spare bedroom. I have never had instruction in watercolors. I just taught myself, so my watercolors don't look like the typical watercolor. I started selling paintings again and thus Art by Carol May was born. I gave some classes using watercolors because people were wondering about my techniques.
I have been painting and winning awards for more than twenty years. (See the news clippings about the painter Carol May Britton.) I give God all the glory for my gift of painting. I enjoy the beauty God has created all around us. I love nature, all the birds, butterflies, flowers and everything from mountains to the sea shore. My goal as an artist is to share that beauty with others.Now I paint with both oils and watercolors. I love the freedom of watercolors and the rich beauty of oils. I switch back and forth from one to the other from time to time. Painting takes a lot of time and concentration. It is a great joy to see the beauty growing, as the painting progresses. I hope you enjoy my work, as much as I enjoy doing it. I sign my paintings with my first name and my middle name - Carol May. My full name is Carol May Britton.
I have never considered myself a writer or an author, but about ten years ago the Lord begin waking me up at night and told me to write. He told me to write a book about prayer. I would pour through the scriptures and write what He told me. Thus came the book
"Devil Stomping Prayer"
by Carol May Britton. He had me write all the basics of prayer and then move into spiritual warfare by teaching the God-given weapons we have to defeat the devil, doubt and deception. I self printed the first edition at the turn of the century. Then last year the Lord told me to revise the book because it had been ten years. So the new version is now on Amazon Books in both an e-book version and as a paperback. You will find it under books by Carol May Britton.
God has taught me much about prayer over the years. I have been an intercessor, a prayer warrior for more than thirty years now. I told the Lord, if He would fill me with the Holy Spirit that I would use the gift to pray for others. Now He has me writing another book about my lessons and experiences with the Lord throughout my life. I am hoping to have it done by this fall. He has blessed me with various abilities that I am using to share His love and beauty with others. My prayer is that others may come to know the peace and joy that I have through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Now you know more about me.
